Suzie Kiefer Obituary, Longtime Resident Of Evansville, Indiana Has Passed Away

Suzie Kiefer Obituary, Death- Suzie (Gruner) Kiefer, 85, died at home surrounded by family on September 15, 2023. Suzie, Podgie, and their loved ones will live happily ever after in paradise. Suzie, born January 16, 1938, was proud to be a Hoosier. Walter and Magdalena Gruner loved their daughter.

She graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1956 after attending St. Benedict Elementary and Bosse Junior High. She studied nursing at Purdue and graduated from the University of Evansville after high school. Suzie married her teen crush Roger (Podgie) Kiefer in 1958.

Their unwavering love strengthened their seven children. Their 63-year marriage inspires love and loyalty. Diligent Catholic Suzie valued her religion. She attended Mass and recited the Rosary as a fervent Catholic. She prayed often for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren out of love.

Suzie regularly attended Christ the King, Nativity, and St. Benedict’s. Suzie spent most of her adult life in nursing homes and among the elderly due to her extraordinary caregiving skills. She befriended many elderly residents and staff due to her patience and kindness. Because she loved helping seniors, she worked in geriatrics until her 70s.

When Podgie was sick in September 2016, Suzie took care of him till his death. Chris (Denise), Kurt (Tammy), Kary (Sara), Joe (Jo Ann), Mark (Kathy), Kim (Scott), and Kelli Remmel are her loving children. Her 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews will continue on her legacy.

Her parents, brother Walter, and husband, Podgie, died before her. Death has also affected Suzie’s siblings and in-laws. Suzie’s children will always be grateful to her sister Kim and brother-in-law Scott for their love and security during her final two years. Kim’s love was incredible.

St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN, will host Suzie’s visitation from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and her Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Her burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.In memory of Suzie, the family respectfully requests donations to St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
