Peggy Amsler Obituary, Death – In 92, Peggy Joyce Amsler (Griffeth) died quietly in the Georgia War Veteran’s Home in Milledgeville, GA, on November 11, 2023. Born June 19, 1931, to Bogart, GA’s Lola and Lambert Griffeth.
Peggy entered the Air Force immediately after high school.

After basic training in San Antonio, TX, she served under General Curtis LeMay at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, and later joined the Wisconsin Air Nation Guard in Milwaukee. She motivated numerous women to join the Air Guard, including one of its first female KC-135 Stratotanker pilots. Master Sergeant Peggy served her country for nearly 30 years in civilian and military positions. Peggy loved sports, playing high school basketball and Air Force softball.

She enjoyed watching the “Dawgs” and Packers on TV. To her beloved Georgia, she moved to Athens after retiring from the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 1990. Her sons Kenneth and Greg, wife Wendy Pagel, sisters Betty Lent and Eleanor Griffeth, and many nieces and nephews survive Peggy.

Predeceased by her parents Lola and Lambert, brothers Lloyd, D.W.(Bubba), and Doug Griffeth, sisters Dorothy Hester and Jan Lee. Also husbands Kenneth Pagel Sr., Walter P. Amsler, and Richard Brennan. Lord and Stevens Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Rd, Athens GA, will host a visitation from 10:00 AM to 12 Noon Friday, November 17, 2023. Bethabara Baptist Cemetery, 4651 Monroe Hwy, Statham, GA 30666, will hold the burial.
