Jovian Motley Obituary, Death – The announcement that Correctional Officer Jovian Motley has passed away has left the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) in a state of profound grief. On November 13, 2023, the officer, who was 27 years old at the time, passed away due to injuries sustained in the line of duty while working at the Wainwright Unit in Houston County, Texas.
In October of 2022, Motley became a member of the agency. “Officer Motley was a hero who tragically died while protecting his fellow officers and the public,” stated Bryan Collier, the executive director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). “His bravery and commitment will live on in enduring remembrance. During this time of tragedy, our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, friends, and coworkers.
Eric Nichols, chairman of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice, was quoted as saying that Officer Motley had an unrelenting commitment to serving his community and offered his life for the sake of others. “His sacrifice is a somber reminder of the bravery that is displayed on a daily basis by the men and women who work in corrections.”
He will not be forgotten in our lifetimes.” When Motley passed away, he was working with other officers at the prison to control an offender. He was killed in the line of duty. The investigation into the incident is being carried out by the Office of the Inspector General. Due to the fact that this is still an active criminal investigation, the government agency will not be providing any other details at this time.
