Ellen Ruth Martin Obituary, Death – Heaven called Ellen Ruth Martin of Lancaster, Pennsylvania (Ellie to those who knew her best!) on Friday, September 8, 2023, to McKean, Pennsylvania. Ellie graduated from Hempfield High School in 2015 as the class salutatorian, varsity swimmer, and vice president of her class.
She graduated with a degree in bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 2019 and was given an honorable mention for Outstanding Biomechanical Student of the Year. Throughout her time in college, she served as a TA, RA, University Scholar, and Gamma Sigma Sigma sorority sister. The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society awarded her the Best Published Student Research Paper award in 2018.
She covered a large portion of the Mid-Atlantic while employed as a Risk Control Specialist for CNA Insurance from the time she graduated until the time of her death. She frequently went to the Presbyterian service at the Wayside Church in Landisville. Ellie delighted in crocheting, cooking for her loved ones, and going to the lake.
She was adored by everyone she met due to her kindness, grace, humor, sincerity, fearlessness, and wit. She met innumerable people on her seven-month journey. Her absence will be felt very strongly. Brother Nathan (Corinne Goetzinger) and brother Adam (Christine Martin) as well as niece Abigail Martin, grandfather William Martin, a sizable number of aunts, uncles, and relatives as well as Ellie’s dog Olive survive her.
Her parents are Lancaster residents Laurie and Thomas Martin. Archie and Ellen Wallace, her paternal grandparents, as well as Jeanne Martin, her paternal great-grandmother, all passed away before her. In Western Pennsylvania, there will be a private funeral service as well as a family celebration of life.
