Chris Fookes Obituary, Death – Chris Fookes, who many of you may know from his time working at the Tuck Shop, passed away unfortunately last week. His passing was announced last week. Reverend Lewis Pearson will be laid to rest in the Abbey on the following Friday, the 22nd of September, at 2:30 p.m., and there will be refreshments provided in the Abbot’s Hall after the funeral.
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Chris and his wife Ann were in charge of running the school’s Tuck Shop. This was also the period of time when Ann’s sons Giles and Alex Cobbett attended the institution. Chris and Ann first became acquainted with one another while Ann was working at the school.
Learning French together with Giles was a lot of fun for both of us! After Chris retired, he became quite involved in the life of the Milton Abbas community, participating in activities such as being a member of the History Society and making numerous contributions to published works.
At the beginning of the current school year, each new set of parents received a copy of this booklet, which was named “Portrait of a Village,” as a welcome gift. On the following Friday, anyone with warm memories of either Chris or the boys’ schools is urged to get in touch with Ann and the rest of the family. This includes current or former members of the teaching staff as well as students who attended either of these institutions at any point in time.
